Abstract
A new high thermal conductive AlN-ZrB2 dielectric-conductor composite was developed for microwave absorption applications. Processing-microstructure-properties correlation was established for AlN-ZrB2 composite. The microstructure of the composite comprised of AlN, ZrB2 and Y3Al5O12 phases. Hot pressed AlN-ZrB2 composite exhibited high thermal conductivity (~100 W/m/K). A dielectric percolation threshold (~12 vol%) for ZrB2 inclusions was found in the AlN-ZrB2 composite. The dielectric constant of ~26–27 was achieved near the percolation threshold for AlN-ZrB2 composite.
