Abstract
A new electroinsulating material, boron carbonitride, was developed on the basis of the notion of stable electron configurations. The high insulating properties and chemical stability of boron carbonitride are based on the presence of a BNC phase with an ordered structure and stable sp 3 electron configurations. Its conspicuous technological properties promote its use as a high temperature ceramic insulator and refractory material for agressive environments.
