Abstract

High-spin states in 203Bi are investigated by observing γ-rays and conversion electrons in the reaction 203Tl(α, 4n) 203Bi. States up to 35 2 − are identified. Three isomers with suggested spins of 21 2 +, 25 2 + and 29 2 − and with half-lives between 22 ns and 200 ns are found. Lifetime measuremen also performed in 205Bi and an earlier suggestion of the existence of two isomers is confirmed. The energy level systematics of odd Bi isotopes are discussed.
