Abstract

High resolution measurements of autoionization and Auger electrons emitted from projectile ions have been performed using the methode of 0° electron spectroscopy. The results clearly demonstrated the potential of the methode for an investigation of specific excitation mechanisms with selectively excited beam ions. It is further shown that the experimental arrangement allows also to investigate effects of external electric fields on high Rydberg states ( n > 100) as they are formed in fast foil or gas excited projectiles.
