Abstract

The δ bands ( C 2Π- X 2Π) of the NO molecule, emitted by the blue afterglow in a N 2 + O 2 mixture, are photographed with high resolution. Normal Λ doubling of the rotational lines is found and no breaking-off of the branches, although the C 2Π ( v = 0) state has been assumed to be populated via an inverse predissociation. An incompletely resolved record of the C 2Π- A 2Σ + band (12 237 Å), emitted by an ordinary discharge in nitric oxide, is briefly reported.
