Abstract

The cluster of galaxies A115 (D=6, R=3, BM-Type=III) is one of the most distant clusters (z=0.1971) for which a considerable number of redshifts are available in the literature and a study of the system dynamics has been attempted (Noonan, 1981; Beers et al., 1983). The latter authors have measured redshift for 29 galaxies in the region, 19 of which are cluster members, and mapped the galaxy distribution finding three major clumps of galaxies. The cluster is classified as “double” on the basis of IPC X-Ray data (Forman et al., 1981), which show two peaks of emission coincident with the two main subcondensations of galaxies. The brightest galaxy of the cluster lies in the northern X-Ray clump and is identified with the strong radio source 3C28.
