Abstract
This work reports on the design, assembly, and the optical as well as thermal properties of a polymer-based optrode with integrated light source to be appliedin optogenetic experiments. In parallel to electrical recordings of brain activity using macroelectrodes and microelectrodes, the enhanced depth probe enables the optical stimulation of neural tissue using integrated light emitting diodes (LEDs). A hollow cylindrical polyimide (PI) probe carries the electrodes and their wiring to a connector part while the LED is positioned within the cylindrical probe and electrically connected via a separate PI cable.
