Abstract

Crystal imperfections in organic crystals of phthalocyanine metal derivatives have been studied by direct observations of molecular images. The results can be interpreted by the anisotropic shapes of the molecules and intermolecular forces in the solid. The mechanism of formation of the defects is discussed. It is proposed that the existence of a structural isomer of thorium phthalocyanine (ThPhc2) generates some defects. It also leads to the formation of a new polymorph.
