Abstract

Fermilab experiment E760 is devoted to the study of charmonium spectroscopy by resonant formation of charmonium states in proton‐antiproton annihilations. Unprecedented mass resolution has been achieved in the collision of a stochastically cooled circulating antiproton beam in the Fermilab antiproton accumulator and an internal hydrogen gas cluster‐jet target. Significant improvements have been made in the knowledge of the resonance parameters of nearly all bound states of charmonium. Simultaneously, new measurements have been made of the proton electromagnetic form factor in the time‐like region up to 13 GeV2, the p̄p forward scattering ρ‐parameter has been measured with greatly‐improved precision, and several new light quark resonances have been identified.
