Abstract

Transparent Nd:YAG ceramic is considered to be a very good alternative to single crystal in a solid-state laser system. A diode-side-pumped quasi-continuous-wave (QCW) Nd:YAG ceramic laser operating at 1116nm is demonstrated. An output power of 248W at 1116nm is obtained at a pump power of 1000W, corresponding to an optical conversion efficiency of 24.8%. The pump threshold power is about 154W. This is the first report on laser output at 1116nm for Nd:YAG ceramic to date.
