Abstract

High Curie temperature and high Qm piezoelectric materials were developed in (0.9-x)BiScO3–xPbTiO3–0.1Pb(Mn1/3Nb2/3)O3 (BS–PT–PMnN). A morphotrophic phase boundary (MPB), separating the rhombohedral and tetragonal phase was found at x∼0.6, where highest piezoelectric constant (d33) and electromechanical coupling factor (kp) were obtained. The microstructures and sintering behavior showed a significant change with PT composition, which might be associated with a transient liquid phase at low firing temperature region. A high mechanical quality factor (Qm) which is important for high power applications, and high transition temperature (Tc) were obtained from the tetragonal phase (x∼0.68), and the magnitude of these constants were 1000, and 420°C, respectively. The maximum vibration velocity 0.72 m/s was obtained from x=0.56 composition.
