Abstract
A high performance optical head, using a holographic optical element, which consists of only four optical elements, has been developed. The relief profile of the holographic optical element has been optimized to obtain high light power efficiency. As a result, the maximum light power efficiency has reached 14.8%. Holograms for detecting tracking error have been optimized to suppress tracking signal off-set. It has been experimentally shown that the tracking signal off-set does not appreciably arise.
