Abstract

We read with interest the stimulating article by Parissis et al. [ [1] Parissis J. Rafouli-Stergiou P. Mebazaa A. Acute heart failure in patients with diabetes mellitus: clinical characteristics and predictors of in-hospital mortality. Int J Cardiol. 2011; ([Electronic publication ahead of print], doi:10.1016/j.ijcard.2011.11.098) Google Scholar ], where a secondary analysis of the ALARM-HF survey showed increased in-hospital mortality in diabetic patients with acute heart failure. This adverse outcome was attributed to diabetes mellitus-related sequels, such as ischemic heart disease, hypertension and renal failure. Unfortunately, during the analysis, data about the antidiabetic regimen, was not collected.
