Abstract
Fully incorporated passive RFID tag is the ideal solution to significantly reduce the costs and sizes of RFID tags. In order to achieve this goal, three basic requirements are necessary: high gain antenna, high efficiency RF-DC converter and ultra-low power mixed signal circuitry. This paper proposes a novel high gain dipole antenna with reflector as the candidate for the fully integrated passive RFID tag. The proposed antenna has been compared with the standard patch antenna. All antennas presented in this paper have been investigated by using HFSS simulation software. Simulation results of the prototype antenna demonstrate an over 3dB higher gain than that of a standard half wave dipole antenna operating at 2.45 GHz. Therefore the half wave dipole antenna with reflector is a promising candidate for ultra-low cost and miniature RFID tags.
