Abstract
Magnetic properties of GdPd 2Al 3 single-crystalline samples where Gd 3+ ions form the triangular lattice have been studied by high field magnetization measurements. Large magnetic anisotropic features were observed in the ordered state in spite of the 8 S 7/2 state for Gd 3+ ions. These anomalous properties of GdPd 2Al 3 are discussed in terms of a two-dimensional triangular lattice antiferromagnet.
