Abstract

Background: Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) synthesized in perivascularadipose tissue (PVAT) decreases vascular tone and inhibits atherogenesis. H2Ssignaling in PVAT is determined by the rate of its synthesis by cystathionineγ-lyase (CSE) and its mitochondrial oxidation. Recenty, we have demonstrated that administration of cannabinoid CB1 agonists augments H2Ssignaling in PVAT by suppressing mitochondrial biogenesis. Because endogenouscannabinoids are produced in the adipose tissue, we examined the effect ofdiet-induced obesity on PVAT H2S system.
