Abstract

This article proposes a four-quadrant operation strategy of the switched reluctance machine (SRM) for the high-dynamic speed control, and the core of the strategy is a PWM-based predictive control method with the online adaptive phase excitation. The predictive control method is composed of the model predictive control (MPC) and deadbeat predictive control (DPC). The MPC is applied in the commutation region and the DPC is used to calculate the control signal for the single-phase excitation. With the proposed control method, the applicable operation range of the predictive control is extended to the braking torque region, and the four-quadrant operation of the SRM for the high-dynamic speed adjustment application is realized. The performances of the proposed control method are evaluated by detailed simulations and experiments under different conditions, and its superiority is demonstrated by comparing with other typical control methods.
