Abstract

Rationale: Serum selenium level decreases in major surgeries and general inflammation which is associated with poor clinical outcomes. Given the high prevalence of serum selenium decrease in patients with inflammatory and oxidative damage in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), high-dose selenium supplementation may improve inflammatory markers, oxidative stress, and clinical outcomes in PICU patients.
