Abstract
The paper presents the potentialities of thermal assisted processing to manufacture bent hollow profiles in multi-phase High Strength Steels. A new process, named Direct Hot Rotary Draw Bending (DHRDB), was developed and validated in the case of processing 22MnB5 profiles, allowing a localized thermal treatment of the hollow profile during the bending process. Interaction between thermal and tools kinematic cycles were investigated to identify the most suitable process windows capable of granting the required accuracy and mechanical properties. The results show that DHRDB allows overcoming the room temperature process limitations granting high accuracy, nearly absent springback and enhanced mechanical properties.
