Abstract

This paper describes a new framework called Controlled Component Synthesis for the design of multi-level decentralized controllers for large flexible structures. In contrast to the existing decentralized control approach in which the design begins with a given dynamic model of the flexible structure, controlled components are built and assembled into a controlled flexible structure that meets performance specifications. A simple truss structural control problem is employed to illustrate the design procedures, as well as demonstrate the potentials of the developed method for controlling very large dimensional truss structures.
