Abstract

For this year's Wakley–Wu Lien Teh Prize1 we called for essays that reveal the “hidden life” of health professionals and “unhistoric acts” that reflect the seemingly ordinary but touching and meaningful moments in health and medicine. We were pleased to receive about 95 submissions covering broad topics in health, including, but not limited to, violence against women, long-term care services, public mental health, rare diseases in children, palliative care nursing, and physician burnout. We were also thrilled that many of the submissions were written by young health professionals who offered insightful reflections on health progress and change in China.
