Abstract

Heterostructural MoO2/MoC2 microspheres prepared through the hydrothermal reaction with subsequent low-temperature annealing were applied into electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution. The electrocatalyst of MoO2 /MoC2 exhibits good electrocatalytic activities in 0.5 M H2SO4 solution with a low overpotential of 161 mV at a current density of − 10 mA cm−2 and a Tafel slope of 69 mV dec−1. This study is beneficial for realizing the intrinsic electrocatalytic properties of molybdenum heterostructure materials for improving water splitting reactions.
