Abstract
AbstractEleven amphibian and eight saurian species have been observed and collected during several expeditions between 1988–1990 to the rain forest area of the Nguru mountains. Most of them are new records for this area. The species are briefly described and ecological data are provided. Two topotypic Bradypodion f. fischeri specimens are now available for comparison, the first specimens from the type locality for more than one hundred years. The close relationship of the herpetofauna of the Ngurus to the Uluguru and Usambara mountains is proven. Four species (Agama montana, Afrocaecilia uluguruensis, Chamaeleo deremensis, Scelotes uluguruensis) are no longer restricted to the Uluguru or/and Usambara mountains respectively.Three snake species are also recorded from the area.
