Abstract

Aim: Immunsupressive effects of drugs used for treatment of rheumatological diseases can lead to activation of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) in patients who came across before with these viruses. Material and Method: 134 ankylosing spondylitis patients who were followed in University of Health Sciences Bursa Resarch and Training Hospital Physical Treatment and Rehabilitation Polyclinics were analysed retrospectively. Results: Patients avarage age was 43.0±12.0. HBsAg positivity was 4.5%. Anti HBs positivity was 22.4%. In 2 patients ( 1.5%) anti HCV was positive. In 32 patients (23.8%) isolated anti HBc IgG positivity was present. Conclusion: HBV and HCV infection prevalence in ankylosing spondylitis patients was parallel to previous literature whereas isolated anti HBc IgG positivity rate was higher.
