Abstract
Objective To analyze the efficacy of hemofiltration in the treatment of severe diabetic nonketotic hyperosmolar syndrome ( NKHS ).Methods The clinical data on 21 patients undergoing hemofiltration for NKHS ( study group )were compared with those on 28 patients receiving conventional treatment for NKHS ( control group ).Time to a decline in blood glucose to a level of 8 mmoL/L,time to restoration of osmotic pressure to a level of 320 mOsm/L,survival rate, and mortality rate were compared between the two groups. Results In the study group, levels of blood glucose and osmotic pressure returned to normal more rapidly. It,as compared with the control group, had a higher success rate and a lower mortality rate, with a significant difference ( P< 0.05 ).Conclusions Hemofiltration is more effective in the treatment of severe diabetic nonketotic hyperosmolar syndrome and is worth popularizing clinically. Key words: Hemofiltration; Severe diabetic nonketotic hyperosmolar syndrome; Severe diabetes
