Abstract

The experiment involved students (N = 20) of the same age group (18–20 year old) from region polluted by smelter of Ferronikeli in Gllogovc and students from Gjakova (N = 20), located far from the source of pollution. In blood was investigated the number of red blood cells, the concentration of hemoglobin, hematocrit values, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) and leukocyte formula. The analysis were done with devices SYSMEX KX21N.Statistical processing and analysis of preliminary results showed that compared to control group, in blood of students from Gllogovc the number of leucocytes is higher, whereas the number of platelets, red blood cells, the hematocrit values, hemoglobin concentration and MCV, MCH, MCHC are lower.Leukocyte differential analysis of students in the contaminated region shows an increase in the number of lymphocytes, reduction of MXD (mixed forms of leucocytes) and neutrophils.
