Abstract
A versatile helium-gas cooling system for beam window foils is described. Measured cooling power densities are reported for a specific double-foil beam window design, which performed well under bombardment with 66 MeV protons at beam currents of up to 100 μA. Calculated temperature profiles for different window materials and beam parameters are also presented.
