Abstract

The thermodynamic quantities of a classical XY model defined on a quasi- one-dimensional lattice measuring Lx × Lx × Lz (where LzLx) are calculated using the Monte Carlo method. It is found that the onset temperature of the helicity modulus decreases as the system approaches the one-dimensional limit, LzLx, whereas that of the square of magnetization persists as the bulk transition tempera- ture. In addition, we briefly discuss the recent torsional oscillator experiment on the filling of nanopores with liquid 4 He in the light of the obtained results.
