Abstract

Energy-loss straggling values have been measured for low-velocity ($\frac{E}{M}=16$ keV/u) ions, $9<~{Z}_{1}<~21$, transmitted through carbon foils. A comparison of these data with ion-induced Auger-electron yields for the same collision systems suggests a contribution to electronic-energy straggling arising from electron promotion.
