Abstract
Heat is conducted to the endwall of a shocktube, following reflection of a shock wave from the wall, through a steep temperature gradient. If temperature of the interface can be measured, one can deduce thermal conductivity of the gas as a function of temperature. The problem of analyzing data from such experiments is solved here by an implicit variational method, and the numerical solution is illustrated. Extension to other transport experiments is discussed.
