Abstract

Current leads are the major heat leakage source in superconducting devices and largely affect the efficiency of the superconducting system operation. Peltier current lead (PCL), a combination of thermoelectric material (BiTe) with the conventional copper lead in the room-temperature end, is effective to reduce heat leakage. Due to the Peltier effect, the thermoelectric material can pump out the heat from the low temperature side to the room temperature side. In this paper we propose PCLs with constant and varying cross sections and simulated the heat leakage on PCLs by using COMSOL simulations. The simulated results show that the PCL with varying cross section can reducing heat leakage of 10% which compares to the constant cross sections.
