Abstract

Current lead is the main source of heat leakage for superconducting cryogenic system in normal operation. The Peltier current lead (PCL), which is fabricated by inserting a thermoelectric material Bi2Te3 into the room temperature end of the conventional copper lead, can effectively reduce the heat leakage created by current leads. In this paper, the PCL with varying cross section is proposed. The heat leakage of PCL in water and natural cooling modes at its room temperature end were simulated and tested experimentally. The experimental results indicate that the two modes of PCL with varying cross section behave differently in allowable current range and the PCL with varying cross section can effectively reduce the heat leakage.
