Abstract

This book represents a compilation of discussions by several authors dealing with the normal and abnormal function of the labyrinth. As expected, the book is weighted toward the audiologic evaluation and rehabilitation of hearing loss, but also includes chapters on the normal and abnormal physiology of the labyrinth, as well as the treatment of medical disorders producing hearing loss and dizziness. The chapters are short and easy to read, representing a summary of knowledge in the particular area assigned. The chapters are generally well done, with many offering superb presentations and only a few warranting improvement. The first section deals with the clinical evaluation and, aside from an introduction to the otologic evaluation, deals primarily with audiologic assessment of hearing loss including the usual battery of pure tone, speech, impedance, and evoked potential audiometry. The second section discusses the medical disorders ranging from otitis media to otosclerosis, ototoxicity, noise-induced hearing
