This book is an improved edition of an already well-accepted textbook. It provides for the reader a wide diversity of basic knowledge concerning auditory function and dysfunction. Initially copywritten in 1947 as a guide for laymen, the book appeared in a second edition as a text for professionals in 1960. The present third edition includes a number of worthwhile additions and changes in the text material. An improved format with larger pages and clearer printing vastly improves the readability of the text. The price of the book puts it within the budget of students as well as professionals. The third edition of Hearing and Deafness includes an expansion of concepts dealing with psychoacoustics, neurophysiology, genetics, diagnostic audiology, and the education of deaf children.
