Abstract

A concept of community health is presented as the goal of community development. The four attributes used to define community health are: (1) attitudes and values, (2) capacities, (3) organizational structures and (4) leadership. The implications of using community health as a variable in measuring program success and for the training of community development practitioners are spelled out. Future steps necessary for the construction of scales to measure community health are indicated.
