Background and Objectives: Why study health-related quality of life (HR-QoL)? When using traditional endpoints as survival and locoregional control, often no significant difference between treatment options can be identified. Established outcome measures of treatment efficacy, like tumour recurrence and survival time, are often meaningless to patients; in contrast, their ability to return to pre-illness function and psychosocial well-being is fundamental.
