Abstract

Introduction: medicinal plants are those that have healing properties that have been implemented since ancient times, being transmitted from generation to generation as a natural means by which diseases can be treated. Objective: to analyze the healing experiences with medicinal plants in older adults from the Rumipamba de Navas neighborhood. Method: a qualitative approach research was carried out, with a hermeneutic phenomenological design with a descriptive scope that addresses, from a phenomenological position, knowing the healing experiences with medicinal plants in older adults from the Rumipamba de Navas neighborhood. Results: 15 semi-structured interviews were carried out and the analysis of the data obtained through the qualitative study on the healing experiences with medicinal plants in older adults from the Rumipamba de Navas neighborhood and applying Giorgi's method allowed us to identify categories and subcategories that highlight the aspects about your experience. Conclusion: the older adults of the Rumipamba neighborhood of Navas have extensive experience in what has to do with the use of the same medicinal plants that have been used to treat their illnesses and ailments. The information collected indicates the importance that these plants have in their families, neighbors and in taking care of their own health. Furthermore, in the neighborhood it can be seen how the elderly mostly depend on medicinal plants, in such a way that some of them have decided to plant crops on their land to maintain and have these plants nearby
