Abstract
Two thirds of the earth's surface is covered with water. Up to now, the huge amounts of energy available there have mainly been utilized in coastal areas only. The aim of this work is to show how autonomously operating Airborne Wind Energy Systems (AWES) can make a significant contribution to the global energy supply.
