Abstract

In December 1991, Britain's first wind farm was connected to the grid. Concurrently in the latest NFFO round, proposals for 49 projects totalling almost 200 MW were approved by the Government. Wind power is on the verge of widespread commercial development in the UK. This review looks at the technology of wind turbines, the economics and the environmental impact of wind farms.
