Abstract

The international system, through the World Trade Organisation (WTO), has assumed the driving seat in positioning the world’s Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) regime to achieve maximum economic yield through a system of effective regulation. This Chapter reflects on the implications of the current regime for a developing country like Nigeria, in terms of how the country can harness benefits from the current regime through a Strategic Development Paradigm (SDP). The Chapter proposes an informed and carefully planned policy approach to the implementation of IPRs under the TRIPS Agreement.
