Abstract

Summary form only given. Behavior of matter in extremely intense laser fields continues to attract a great deal of attention. In this paper, we present our studies on the x-ray emission from plasmas produced in solids by intense femtosecond laser pulses. We obtain the temperatures of hot electrons created in these plasmas and discuss their origin. We also show that 'roughness' on the solid surface can enhance very hard x-ray emissions (50-250 keV range).
