Abstract
Because the greatly reduced lattice constants of Ce 2 Fe 14 B lead to nonmagnetic behavior, partial substitution of La for Ce, thereby expanding the lattice constant, may result in magnetic properties. (La 1-x Ce x ) 2 Fe 14 B powder samples with x ranging from 0 to 1 were prepared, and the magnetic properties and latttice constants measured. It was found that as x was decreased, the tetragonal lattice constants a and c increased, and that the anisotropy constant K was maximum in the vicinity of x = 0.7. The magnetic properties of misch metal-Fe-B quenched ribbons are also presented.
