Abstract
In October 1937, a few months after completing his doctoral studies at the Eidgenossische Technische Hochschule ETH in Zurich, Switzerland, Hans Albert Einstein stepped off the boat in New York, where he was met by his father, the famous physicist Albert Einstein Fig. 1 . Getting his 33-years-old son from Switzerland to the United States had been a major effort for Albert. His son needed to learn English; his son’s wife was reluctant to leave Switzerland; acquiring the right visa was complicated; moreover, there was concern that his son as the son of a prominent Jewish scientist should avoid traveling on a German ship. Albert then had the task of finding his son a job in the United States. Albert called upon acquaintances to assist in finding his son a position. Professors Theodore von Karman at Caltech and Lewis Moody at Princeton played crucial roles in identifying possible employers.
