Abstract
Both the number and the complexity of numerical mechanical simulations are constantly increasing. This leads to increasing quantities and higher interconnectedness of the resulting data objects. In order to manage the emerging complexity and to enable new concepts such as the digital twin, it is therefore necessary to have a future-proof simulation data management system (SDM system) in place. This paper illustrates how the complexity of IT landscapes for simulation data management can be handled by an approach for model-based IT architectures (MBITA®). The matrix-based approach helps to analyze the current collaboration processes and derive the requirements for a future SDM tool. The approach is used in a case study from the automotive supplier industry, leading to a basis for a systematic and traceable tool and vendor selection.
