Abstract

This work is aimed to improve protection function of an epoxy ester coating by embedding inhibitor loaded halloysite nanotubes (HNTs). At first step, in the solution phase, corrosion inhibition of imidazole dicarboxcylic acid (IDC) released from loaded HNTs was assessed by using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and polarization measurements in 3.5% wt NaCl solution. Release of the inhibitor from halloysite nanotubes was proved by UV–vis spectrometer. Then, HNTs loaded with IDC were embedded into an epoxy-ester resin. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy showed superiority of the coating with loaded halloysite particles compared to the neat coating.
