Abstract

A useful method of solving the problems of reading hail dents on hailpads, at present done manually, is shown, using a computerized reduction technique by scanner. The pads are digitalized by a scanner acquisition system and the picture obtained is then processed by the software to calculate the diameters of the inked dents. This technique provides a fast and easy way of reducing hailpad data and also make it possible to build a practical hail data base. Data used are those of the hail network of Istituto Agrario of San Michele all'Adige, in the province of Trento, Italy.
