Abstract

We calculate the lowest-lying hadronic mass spectrum of all possible combinations of up, strange, and charmed quarks in the quenched approximations of lattice QCD with Wilson fermions. We analyze the mass spectrum on the lattice using simple quark models: most of the disagreement with experiment appears to be a nearly-mass-independent suppression of hyperfine splitting. We measure the quark wave function at the origin for vector mesons and find that it reproduces the observed scaling with vector-meson mass. We also observe a similar scaling law for baryon wave functions. We compare the QCD part of electromagnetic mass splittings to quark-model expectations.
