Abstract

Hadron masses are calculated in the quenched approximation to lattice gauge theories with a renormalization group improved lattice SU(3) gauge action and Wilson's quark action on a 16 3 × 48 lattice. The ground state masses of hadrons calculated for several quark masses are free from finite size effects and the contamination of excited states. When the results are extrapolated to the quark mass where the pion and rho masses take the physical values, the proton and delta masses agree with the physical values with an error of at most 10–15%.
