Abstract
Guimarães Rosa e Clarice Lispector têm sido vistos como fenômenos isolados em nossa história literária, como se eles inaugurassem caminhos de todo inéditos em nossa literatura. Este trabalho procura mostrar que essa sensação se deve menos à obra desses dois autores do que à visão pouco abrangente que se cristalizou acerca da geração que os antecedeu. De fato, um olhar cuidadoso sobre o romance de 30 demonstra que o sistema literário brasileiro estava pronto para o surgimento de Guimarães e Clarice nos anos 40
