Abstract

Part IV presents guidelines for a questionnaire to be used in case-control studies. Such a questionnaire would record information on possible exposure, confounders, and effect modifiers from both the cases and the controls. The questionnaire does not mention the disease status of the respondent. This is done to reduce bias that may result from the subject's becoming aware of the precise hypotheses of interest or from the interviewer's being aware of the disease status of the respondent.
